Just one question

What is the point of reputation when post whoring makes it goes up every so often.

Or better yet, what is the point of reputation points?

XD Lol.... I'm such a post whore.

Postwhore? ... Me?

Nah, every one of my posts are heartfelt.

*smiles*

but on a more serious note, how do you get rep points, and what do the green boxes mean?

People click on the scales in the upper portion of you post (right side). I have no idea what use they are, and I don't know how many = 1 point.

Idesin
March 29th, 2008, 05:45 PM
*nods* I know that's for the number,

but what about the green boxes?

I know a few furs with less rep points than me, but they have more green boxes.

A forum I was a part of a while ago, my reputation was up around 22k (the top dog of the site was at I believe....... 300k+)

Anyways, I am very knowledgeable about how those scales work. I just don't think that the reputation system is needed around here because repping somebody + or - does not affect them at all.

I purpose that it be tweaked just a bit so when reputation is given or taken away, it actually has some impact.

I'll volunteer as the person who takes care of this. I hold no grudges and have no vendetta against anyone. I swear on my life that I will not play favorites and only make corrections when they need to be made

I shall stay loyal to all mods and admins even if my life is threatened.

(Besides, who is on F2F more often than me ^_^)

>Cough<
>Cough<

*smiles*

But in reality, you should PM one of the mods about it, I sugest Dale, if you think it's really that broken.

Silvermane
March 30th, 2008, 02:14 PM
I don't think it's a problem really. I just don't see why e have it if it makes no difference in status rankings (it may even boost posts, it sure as hell did on the other forum)

Idesin
March 30th, 2008, 03:34 PM
Well, thats the thing, we don't want inflated post counts. I just wished it was a bit clear what they did.

Silvermane
March 30th, 2008, 04:01 PM
I'm just saying, the more active of a member you are, the higher your reputation should be

Idesin
March 30th, 2008, 05:04 PM
*laughs* I think 12 is pretty hi.

kcoar
March 30th, 2008, 11:15 PM
People need to be more aware of them scales.

Cause I say some fucking awesome shit and don't get credited enough! *randomly gets mauled by a starving, angry bear*

Just kidding! But I think this could be used for a better cause, like I dunno... something cool.

And does it really come with post count? Cause Will has more posts than me and 0 rep. Same with yoshinblack.

Which is odd. WillO says some classy stuff.

Exactly my point Kcoar +rep ^_^

Those that contribute to the forum in a positive manned (ex: Staying on topic, bring up a good point, helping out ect)

Some of the stuff WillO has said before has left me speechless. This is why she deserves a plus rep as well

Idesin

Yeah, thats one question. Mephesto. I have 12 rep points to your 10, but you have many more green boxes than I do. How does that work out?

Frosty_Orca
March 31st, 2008, 06:14 PM
thats because the admins have the ability to manually change setting in the reputation, and some of us may have played with that feature with other admins accounts.

Idesin
March 31st, 2008, 07:07 PM
Ah, so the green boxes are only for the Mods to identify themselves then?

WillOTheWolf
April 1st, 2008, 12:03 AM
Thats awesome.
And who says the green boxes do nothing (McBain: THE GOOGLES DO NOTHING!)? Maybe they have an impact on other members. They might say, "Hey this guy/girl has boxes! S/he must know what they're talking about!"

kenamaro

my rep is small but i do have some!! squee!

Frosty_Orca
April 1st, 2008, 12:42 AM
that is true, those who have a lot of green, are users who post a lot and are active on the boards. but remember it's not JUST posting, it's needing others to rate your posts.
in the end, there is no special, secret anything that you get for having higher rep, it's just a cool thing to have

Idesin
April 1st, 2008, 12:44 AM
right, but what I don't get is that I have 12 rep, and no green boxes.

Do I have to ask one of the mods for green boxes?

green boxes are shiny

shiny ... oooh

*wonders away caught in ADD*

>.> <.< ^.^" I have two green boxies. *Cough* Anyways! I agree theres alot of things people say onn here that needs some point for them saying it, but some just over look it sometimes. *Shrugs* I give out Rep points when ever I can.

I still want to know what's the point of the reputation thingy. xD
Isn't it relative? I mean. Look at me for example, I have a -1 rep because someone decided by their own will that I was being arrogant. O.o I can understand each person will have their own opinion about me, but I don't want people to base their own opinion from someone else's. And despite what most say, a lot of people still trust rumors. =P

No big point in taking concern on the presence of the reputation, I mean, we know its between a measure of posts and potential negative/positive reputation votes... only minds it who wants it.
Wasn't there an option to disable it even somewhere? ... or am I imagining things?

And of course, if one minds one side of it, it has to live with the other.
Can't expect everyone to like our words.

Sagisou Fang

What's the concern? I couldn't care less if I had a -99 rep or a +99. I was just trying to make a point there. What's however the point on adding a reputation (good or bad) to someone? Do you earn anything from it other than self-satisfaction?
And for more info, I had the reputation box checked because I didn't know what it was about until someone actually did something on it.
People can call me arrogant, selfish, idiot... if they do it on my face I don't care. But what I'd be more worried about is that these people go around telling everybody what they think of me, like going on warning "Don't talk to this guy. He's a total jerk."

Technically, Reputation is there as a way to show how good of a poster a person is. Postwhoring is actually not a true factor in raising a person's reputation. You get one point of rep per several hundred posts.

The green boxes are a representation of your relative Reputation "Power". Basically how much "oomph" you have when you leave reputation for others.

The real way Reputation is gained is through others. You receive either positive or negative rep and when you get enough you will get a point of rep.

So, that is Reputation in a nutshell. Be kind to your fellow furs and leave Reputation if you really really like their post!

I'm not disputing it, but it seems that when rep is given to someone, it does not show

~remembers when he had a reputation power of 237, getting praise for contributing, basking in the glory that is me~

Idesin
May 2nd, 2008, 10:27 PM
*chuckles* so then, I guess that clears up a bit. *shakes head* it's funny, iv'e given more rep post for the game secion than the RP section. Gonna have to try to rember not to do that.

Damn, I have none of those green rep thingys. But still managed to become an half op in F2F's irc.... so do they really mean anything of importance? =P

Daelyhel Axon

They really do not give you anything major special or anything. Just some that the old owners have given to the members of the site.

All it does is give the power to the members to rate each others posts and what not. More rep power you have the more rep points you give to someone when you rate them. That is all it really does.

Personally the amount posts someone has or the number of green things does not reflect my impression of someone. Just my interaction with them period is what effects my thoughts of them.

Silvermane
May 3rd, 2008, 09:52 PM
If it does not give any special power or improve the way people look at you, then why bother having it?

Depends on how much you value a "ratings" type system. That is what it's supposed to be like. LOL

Of course, thanks to the forum software, it hasn't quite been refined enough to be a true ratings system.

Thywolf

*hates rating systems*

oh thee well, I'm going to have to remember that I can add to rep to furs who create good posts, but in the end...

A post count is a post count :3

Reputation System is stupid. It's all popularity contest and little kids abuse it and/or cheat. ;)

No it's not worth anything but self satisfaction and to make people feel better about spending all their time here!

Good enough answer? :)
