I've been saving up for a new computer and for the first time in my life I am considering going with an AMD.. Price is a big part of this consideration and I'm wondering if I'm getting what I pay for or if it is actually superior to Intel's CPU's.
btw, I'm looking at the X4 Phenom Black Edition

My dad, who used to work with an import computer company for several years will tell you that intel is the best. I've had 2 friends who had laptops fueled by AMD and both have crashed within a year (and no, they didn't have viruses)
I'm not a computer nut, but from experience, I've never had any problems with Intels. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

if you are buying it for the price and NEVER intend to overclock it then it's alright. amd chips arn't better then intel and an intel equivalent will always beat an amd but infanately more so if you overclock it since intels are almost always allot more stable. if you arn't overclocking it might be worth it though

the processor will almost never be the cause of a computer crashing unless it is improperly installed and cooled. on laptops the biggest problem is a bad image that they ghost onto it. although this is true amd chips ARE very prone to overheating so cooling is a possible issue

agreed, amd is an excellent choice both in value and stock power, but as stated Intel is best for overclockers, amd is just a better value if you intend on not messing with it and just having a good well balanced computer, as for me i just finished my first high end build with great success on an intel q9450 quad overclocked from 2.66 to 3.2 (under water cooling) effortlessly, if i was not building this beast for overclocking, i would have prefered an asus mother board with a phenom x4, rather than an nVidia board and intel cpu, i had an athalon 64 bit in the past and my laptop is an amd tourion x2 64 bit and both had ZERO problems at stock speeds and were great for universal use (and it doesnt break the bank =D) a good cpu cooler and a well ventillated case will give you years of good computing with amd at least it should

the computer i am making is an Intel core 2 quad processor 3.0 ghz with dual Nvidia GeForce 9800, 4 gigs of DDR2 800 mhz ram 500 gigs hard drive space
and the whole thing is going to be oil cooled. overclocked. i will not have any lag anymore.
