Gah! I swear I about just had a massive heart attack! A massive feeling of shock and despair hit me, I kid you not. It’s like… 1:50 AM as I write this. It might sound childish, but my Pokemon Ruby just did two things after I had let it sit on the table for awhile without playing it…
1) It loaded fine until it got to the screen where you’d select your file, then it glitched out visually on the data part and said that it had failed to save properly, that it would revert to the previous save.
Okay, that doesn’t sound so bad… right? Probably not good, but not bad. But it’s one of those things that you don’t want to see because something like… 2) Might happen!
2) DATA HAS BEEN DELETED *jaw drop/mind melt/heart sink* and it just showed new game and options. Holy buttfucked zombie Jesus on a cracker!
But luckily… I turned it off in disbelief and gave it another go…
*deep exhale of relief* I got all my data back… *clutches chest* holy fuck-shit it was frightening! I still feel an increased heart rate as I type this and I feel like convulsing or shivering at the thought of #2 happening again.
What I don’t get is how it could say that THE DATA IS DELETED and then have it right back in another power on. Go figure *shrug* old technology. I’ve had it happen with another game or two in the past, not that I can recall what. Pretty sure it involved the 64. But god damn I was lucky that wasn’t a permanent loss.
Now, you all might think I’m over reacting, especially if you don’t play Pokemon or stopped at Red/Blue/Yellow or Gold/Silver/Crystal. But let me tell you, you don’t know how many fucktons of critters of all sorts from all different games are on there. The majority of them level 25, 30, 35, 50, 60, or randomly higher for some. So it isn’t like they’re all fresh caught spring chickens, work was put into that shit. And some of them would be insanely hard to get back.
I’ve got them all from Abomasnow to Zubat you see. Spanning several games… Ruby itself, the things you need from Saphire that you can’t get in Ruby, Coliseum, XD: Gale of Darkness, Jirachi via the special disk, Fire Red, Leaf Green. Stuff from all those different sources, all on Ruby. I mean it. There’s a lot. A lot that would be crazy hard to re-obtain especially since I don’t own some of those games. I literally have, in one evolutionary form or another, every Pokemon that you can get legitimately without going to special events*. Plus Jirachi, which is sort of an event/limited release thing. Not to mentioned I’d have lost 3 of the elusive shiny Pokemon as well. I’d have definitely been glad I got my level 100 team off of there, that’s for sure.
*events that are only held in big cities, so good luck people without money to fucking fly to go get a Pokemon. These Pokemon are: Mew, Celebi, Deoxys, Darkrai, and two others I forget the name of.
So yeah. It would have been a KINDA BIG thing thar to lose all that thar Po-ko-mawn datar :B

But this definitely reminds me that I need to haul ass and get them onto my Diamond game. The old Ruby game has been used A LOT (obviously. You don’t even want to know the hours.) and is getting on in years + despite care a bit of wear and tear. Once they are on Diamond I’ll be able to rest assured of their security.
And you’ve just read a long ass rant about POKEMON! You gain 26,379 Nerd-Exp, you gain 10 levels and get absolutely nothing out of this! Huzzah!
