Any helpful computer nerds out there?

Bigger computer nerds than me I mean. I have a problem with my monitor and for once I have no clue how to fix it. For some reason my white is really bright and any darker colors over the white such as black text on a white background streaks like it's smudged or something. It only happens in windows. Full screen programs like games look fine. it doesn't show up in screen captures either or I'd post a pic of it. Any idea what's wrong here?

Sounds to me like its the monitors doing or possibly your graphics card however dont take my word for it i could be very well mistaken :strong:

I got a new monitor for Christmas, yay! Someone heard about my monitor and figured even if I could fix it the thing would still be a 6 year old CRT so they got me a new one. It's a flat panel wide screen and it's also bigger than my old one. It's really nice. Looks like I don't need help anymore. :D

well with it being a CRT. The projection gun in the back of the tube must be going out as the video card gives out different signals to it. So the board connecting the video cable to the CRT was on its last leg. I had it happen to me then one day i walked into my room and found my monitor smoking. lol Well congrats on the new monitor.
