I have lots of music in my hard drive, and it's frustrating because both iTunes and Windows Media Player fail to acknowledge several songs off these albums when I add them. They're in proper format or can be converted, and still nothing happens.

Does anyone know of a NON-SUCKY media player able to play music of any filetype back to back. If it's compatible with Last.fm's audio scrobbler, EVEN BETTER.

My first tip:

Download the K-Lite Codec Pack (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm).

It will tune up your Windows Media Player so it will be able to play a lot more different files (e.g. DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, H.263, H.264, MPEG1, MPEG2, AVC, FLV1, FLV4, MJPEG, CinePack, VP3, huffyuv, Theora, AAC, AC3, DTS, MP1, MP2, MP3, TrueAudio).

If that fails I'd recommend the VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/).

It's takes a bit of time to get used to it, still it's concidered one of the best free media players out there. Last.fm audioscrabbler-compatible since version 0.8.6. I use it as an alternative to Windows Media Player, very often it is able to open files that the Windows Media Player doesn't open and in some cases it can even repair corrupted media files.

I could mention some other players, even portable (penware) ones but I think the codec and VLC should do the job.

agreed. I've had K pack installed for some time and windows plays nearly everything now.

i like to use winamp personally but what you need is k-light codec. it usually makes any music that isn't playable, playable and allows you to use most movies and stuff. just make sure not to download a virus mock version
