The ship was a worthy vessel, sailing without any problems on the open waters. Despite the cargo it held, the ship made no signs of unsteadyness. It was stackedwith the basics of pirating. Cannons, food and water supplies, money (stolen or earned), and of course, rum. The drink that both fueled and totally hammered any crew that partook in its ingestion. But, this was just minor points. In its short time, the crew had become successful, being a range of experienced and new pirateers. They had already performed several successful raids of merchant and trades ships, even a military ship or two.

He stood at the crows nest, the first mate and a grey and black, spotted hyena. Austin, but he had tacked himself the nickname of "Crash" from his style of recklessly throwing himself over, through and into things and people during fights. He may have been 6'1, but he was light and agile. His usual dress code, aqua folded bandanna with his forehead lengthed hair, the back reaching the back of his neck, black except for the aqua dyed, straightened and styled into hanging spikes, tips. Added to this was his black pirate vest (a jacket with the sleeves crudely cut off), knuckle gloves and baggy, black pants, tucked into his shin high, buckled boots.

Captian Dieago Nuqiem, that's what they called him. That stunning broad man that walked on the dock towards the massive galleon named "The Rapier". His blue eyes were open, looking at everything passing by, from the fish sellers on the sides of the docks, to the young slave boys working for their masters, lugging crates larger than them across the peir. Dieago was dressed in a dark brown duster, nearly dragging on the wooden pier underneath his feet. Large dark boots with collars on the tops of them, made of the finest of leathers, dyed black from the rarest of fruits. Benath his duster was a long, clean, and white poet's shirt, riffled at the collar and his sleeves, it was finnaly seamed, it must of cost the man a fortune atleast. His large, three pointed hat laid ontop of his head with a large blue, bluming feather sticking from one side as it laid down along the edge. His saber's sheath was clean, his flintlock pistols tacked inside his belt were plosished and clean, hell, even the belt was clean and a masterwork.

His ebony coat of fur was well conditioned and seemed to shine in the sunlight that hit everywhere on the crystaling waters, and on his beautiful ship. His heavy clocking sound of his boots stopped as his blue eyes looked along the plank leading from the peir to his galleon. It was a wonderful day, and everyone's eyes were on this dashing figure of a man, everything about him screamed and shown gentleman, disipliced, respected, even the ladies of the town seemed to glance towards him at first glance, they didn't know though, that almost everything he owned was stolen; he was a pirate Captain.

He looked over the edge of the crows nest and gave a toothy grin. It wasn't so much the 'overthrow your commander' grin. More the fact he had picked up that the vessel and crew leader was indeed striding the ship from the dock to the galleon, the huge area that alone could hold the crew and quite a few others. It was an impressive sight to behold. He began to climb the rope ladders, down to the normal level of the ship, rather quickly, considering his species were nominally fast. His blade hung from his back, held on by a strap going over his chest and back, keeping it close.

Hopping down the last few rungs, the hyenas feet hit the wooden floor with a good, sturdy thump. This led to him quickly pacing himself towards Captain Dieago, his cocky facial expression as prodominant as ever. It was no secret that Austin had an ego, but it was what made him a good pirate. His confidence in his plans were not often misplaced. He often overthought his plans to the point he had several solutions to outcomes, it was unusual he came back with fewer men he came in with.

"Ahoy cap'n Nuqiem!"

Kali was busy scrubbing the deck when he heard feet hit the deck of the ship. He looked up and saw Crash run over to the port side of the galleon. Watching him run to the side of the ship he got off his knees and followed. He saw the captain the same time that Crash had called his name. Looking at his dashing Captain brought back memories of when he first saw the man.

Kali was born a native of the Filipino islands. At the time they were still under Spanish rule, but were slowly raising a rebellion. Kali was a young lion at the time and was sweeped up in the passionate revolution. Things did not go well for him and his cause. He was betrayed by one of their own, and was captured along with his friends and brothers. He lived, more like survived, in prison for five years before his eventual escape. On that day was the fist day he met his new captain.

Running to the docks to evade recapture he asked the few contacts he still had to see if there was any ships leaving at that moment. Fortunately there was, it was named "The Rapier". He knew who the captain was immediately as he stood on the docks directing cargo. Thankfully he spoke Spanish, for Kali was rather uneducated. Captain Nuqiem also knew immediately that he was on the run. Kali offered his own life to the captain in turn for passage on the vessel. The rest is history.

The lion wore no shirt as the beams of sun warmed his wheat colored fur. Upon his back where a pair of sticks in a simple leather thong. He wore short leather breeches that ended just below the knee and a simple piece of fabric wrapped around his waist. The Sarong around his waist represented his family crest, and tucked into it's waist band was a long leave bladed knife called a Borong. Quickly he ran over to his Captain and removed the escreema stick from his back. With a practiced flourish he twirled the stick then brought it to his forehead and dropped to one knee in a salute. "Hola Senior Nuqiem. 'Tis good to have you back aboard."

Stepping on deck every time was a new pleasure for the Captain, he always tried to look his best for many reasons, to grab himself some new crew, to impress the lasses on the dock town, and of course to put out an impression to his men, which he always successfully did. The loyalty of his men was astounding, the first mate Hyena, and this crew member, the "spanish lion", he would always call him. He brushed his chest softly with his paw and dipped the front of his hat respectfully to them both before crossing his arms behind his back.

" Mistah Austin! How has the ship been while I was gone? And of course, did you find any new crew?" his accent was rather deep, ridgid, but had the sincerest hits of roaylty and the voice as soft as a gentleman. He looked over to Kali aswell with a warm grin, bowing before him.

"And you! Kali! The Lion boy! Best kept workin' 'ave ya been lad?" he grinned.

Standing up to his full height of six feet two inches he smiled a toothy grin back to his captain. With the years of service with his captain he had picked up the English laungage rather well, but still spoke in a heavy Filipino accent. "Aye me Capiton, I work hard.. always do Senior, keeps me out of trouble." The lion twirled his stick back to its sheath and gave a crisp formal English salute. "'Ow have the senoritas been treatin' you Sir?" Kali looked at the wolf captain with a mixture of respect and admiration. One day he would like to go back to his home islands with a ship of his own and help his people break the chains of the Spanish oppression. However his duty was to his captain and until one of them died, or he released him from service, this was his home, and this was the man he would follow to the gates of hell with a grin on his face.

He took a bow, his vested coat following in an easy fashion. His grin was wide, his appearance, scruffily formal as his eccentric nature would give off, it was this nature that had won him much thorouhfare. It derived to almost everything in him, how he dressed, walked, spoke, fought, it was his way. Also how he became a pirate on different crews before finding his way to Dieago, not that he would complain. He had began his own way toward success under Captain Nuqiem, and that was indeed a worthy way of life. It wasn't a secret that this particular hyena enjoyed 3 specific things: a private evening with a lass or 4 on docks, a large cellar of rum on voyage, and of course, shiny dabloons.

"All well sir, all well. Still huntin out our men though Cap'n."

His accent seemed quite afar, more from a Scottish region, with a slight Irish hint, just to make it harder to indentify. It linked to his family and area where he was brought up, all rather intricate in itself, it supported to his, somewhat off the wall way of thinking, not particularly normal, but still; interesting to have on board to have on board. At least when he wasn't drunk enough to tell the same story two or three times.

Raaze wondered on the open dock dodging workers and ships crewmen as he did so. "Thiss had better prove better then the lasst sship," he hissed his anger at the memories flashing over his yellow slitted eyes. Long brown cloth pants covers his legs a sturdy leather belt holding them in place. His raven black fur, mostly covered by the sleeved dark forest green jacket he wears, waves slowly in the gently wind. His burnt yellow scaly chest barely shows through the laced shirt and long shoulder strap. The strap itself held his two scimitars, one at his left hip and the other over is right shoulder. His set of pistols could be seen from his sides, the butt sticking out from their back holsters. Swaying his long serpent like tail back and forth the top black fur catching the breeze. Turning to avoid a dock hand with a large crate he fails to notice a crewman walking in his direction. Crashing into each other he just keeps his balance as the other falls from the collision. "HEY! You little punk what do you think you are doing!" the wolf says picking himself off the dock. Standing a head taller then Raaze, himself being just at 5'9, the wolf growls seething in anger. "Look it wass an accident," he says not wanting to draw any unwanted attention to himself,"I'm sure we can work this out." "I'll work it out alright," the wolf barked out his voice filled with rage,"By beating you!" Rearing back the wolf swings missing Raaze as he shifts to dodge the wild punch. The wolf readies another fist before stopping, suddenly shaking. "I really didn't want to hurt anyone today. I really didn't," Raaze says holding his pistol to the gut of the wolf,"but I guess that was just asking to much right wolfei boy." Before the wolf could answer Raaze taks a swing planting his fist swuare on the big wolfs jaw. Bones can be heard breaking from the newly formed crowd. The wolfs eyes roll back into his head as he drops unconsciously to the dock floor. Holstering his pistol Raaze looms over the downed wolf. "Conssider yoursself lucky thiss iss all you get," he says swiftly kicking him for good measure. Staring at the circle of people he causes them to break allowing them to exit the small gathering. Making his way away fromt he scene he ventures down yet another peir. "Where the hell is this ship the 'Rapier' anyway," he says flicking his forked tongue out in annoyance.

((ok so this is my post after asking about it in the sign up area. Hope it works as I was following the idea of trying to find a crew.))

The hyena grinned as he spotted the forming crowd, picking up on a brawl. If he didn't know better, it was the serpent like wolf he had earlier recruited in the tavern. Pointing out into the crowd, past his captain, Austin pet the ship's commander in its direction. If it was who he thought it was - and he was certain he had the right one, his gut instinct wasn't often mislead - they had a fiesty brawler on their hands. Of course, in a crewman, provided he wasn't too big for his boots, that trait was a very useful one indeed. On the few occasions Crash had managed to work with the crewmen fitting that description, they had pulled off raids more than just efficiently, but were even able too keep each other unscathed and alive. Quickly, the spotted hyena head toward the crowd, pushing his way into the middle, winking at the serpent like wolf.

"Nice ta see ye again, Raaze. Need a han' out of this crowd an up to tha boat?"

Looking up at the sudden call Raaze spot the hyena from before. "Crassh wass it," he says trying to remember the name,"You give the worsst directionss. Now where iss thiss sship of yourss?" Following the spoted fellow to the ship Raaze had to admit the ship looked good. Clean and well maintained the ship was mor ethen Raaze had hoped for. Stepping on board he takes a quick look around the main deck. "To be honesst I had thought thiss would be another ssinking sship that awssn't worth it," he says scratching the back of his furry head,"But I would have to take that back after sseeing the sship itsself." "Sso who iss the captain of thiss sship anyway," he says as the hyena noticed his lack of an acsent. Strange how he had none that the hyena could see. "Captain's this way," Austin said leading Raaze to the ships leader.

Kali was distracted by the commotion in the crowd from his captain and the conversation. He eyed the crowd over to see what was happening, but apparently it was over as fast at it had begun for he could not pinpoint the brawl. He heard the hyena speak out to someone in the crowd and looked to see the strange creature that he was addressing. Kali had seen plenty of fighters in his life, and he was sure that this was one of them. As the crowd dispersed and the pair came walking up the port side plank he took a small step to put himself in front of his beloved captain and the dangerous looking reptile. He stood in what looked to be a relaxed fashion with his arms crossed and a paw on the Escrima stick at his side. However those that knew him, knew he was anything but relaxed. His face gave away nothing as the new comer approved closer. He was prepared to put his life in front of the captains should there be any trouble.

The lion looked over to Crash then back to the scaled brawler, "Hola, who's your compadre senior Crash?" the lion asked with blank expression. His hidden paw tightend on the rattan stick reflexivly.

Syxx
May 2nd, 2009, 05:42 AM
He chuckled a little, padding beside the lion and petting his shoulder, the same side he was holding the stick, a subtle sign to tell the lion to relax. The hyena seemed, on the surface, oddly relaxed, yet contemplative. If there was one obvious trait about his nature, it was that he constantly kept sight on the future as well as the present, and he knew that, should the lion be too defencive, and the serpent/canine feel threatened, it was just another set of combustable elements, just waiting to react and explode. That wasn't in Austin's best interests, and it wasn't in the crew's either.
Turning, Crash stood between the two, only just slightly wide, letting them look each other down, his thick yet mixed accent - sounding lightly more Irish - in every word.

"Relax Kali ma' boy, this here's our fellah crewman Raaze."

Razie
May 2nd, 2009, 06:46 AM
Raaze eyed the young lion with a slight hint of amusement. "Not a very friendly group Crassh," Raaze said tilting his head at Kali. Removing his claws from the hilt of his waist scimitar he laughs lightly. "Look at me getting all worked up over a little lion," he says breaking his own tension. Holding out his empty claws as a sign of peace Raaze smiled, his forked tongue flicking out to taste the air about him. "I bring no ill will here," he says tring to calm the lion,"I wissh to join thiss crew not fight them." Touchy little one we have here Raaze thought to himself looking the young one over. A light build still growing into his own body. Powerful non the less the lion looked all to much like a guard dog. I guess he was part of the original crew he thought. "Sso Crassh isss thiss all you have sso far?" he asks scanning the ships deck spotting Austin, the lion Kali and what Raaze thought to be the captain standing behind him. If not a captain then he was very much overdressed. Offering an open claw Raaze locked eyes with the wolf,"Captain."

Kali relaxed a little bit at Crashes paw on his shoulder and took a small step to the side of the captain. A tight grin crossed his face at the reptile and took the offered hand. "This is a pirate ship me amigo, if you want friendly, I will give some six-pence and show you some lovely senoritas.." Kali chuckled a bit at his own jest and looked back to his captain. He stepped fully off to the side with Crash to let his captain evaluate the new recruit. He whispered to the hyena, "Where did you find this one? If he is trouble amigo, the captain will have your arse."

He just chuckled as he looked at the lion, raising a brow. He knew Kali meant well, but Austin was totally committed to his gut instinct. Ok, the new crewman had found his way into a fight before he found the boat, but in busy docks like those, and surrounded by as many arrogant bastards, that were so self-indulged in their own fighting skills and strengths, that a brawl was inches away. And besides, he had quite the history of fights himself. Most of them in bars and pubs, but fights none the less. He leaned in to Kali, whispering back.

"Am' sure he coulf if he wanted' it, bu' safe ta say, am' not the cap'ns type. Ain't female enough. Jus' relax, right? He's one o' us, an your gonna be workin close with him, trust me."

He pet the lion's shoulder once more, turning to Raaze, a toothy grin applying, signaling to the well dressed wolf - the captain to the vessel indeed.

"Raaze, this man here is Cap'n Nuqiem."
