The Furry Fandom
(thanks to Wikipedia)

The Furry fandom is a fandom distinguished by its enjoyment of anthropomorphic animal characters. Examples of anthropomorphism in furry fandom include the attribution of human intelligence, facial expressions, anatomy, speech, bipedalism, and clothing to otherwise animal characters. Members of this subculture are sometimes known as furry fans, furries, or simply furs.

Art and entertainment celebrated by furry fandom include fictional work that employs the concept of animal characters with human characteristics, rather than any particular type of fiction. For this reason, any work, in any medium, may be considered part of the furry genre simply by inclusion of an anthropomorphized animal character, although such characters are most often seen in comics, cartoons, animated films, allegorical novels, and video games. The science fiction and fantasy genres make frequent use of anthropomorphism, and as a result, are especially popular in furry fandom.

What is a Furry?

Furries are members of the furry fandom. Most often when people think of furries, they think of people who dress up in animal costumes. This is not always true. Furries are people who like anthropomorphic animals. Some even empathize with them and desire to be them, or even feel they have an animal spirit guiding them. Most take on a "Fursona". This being is who/what they would desire to be or be most like. A Fur can be of any type of animal. From mammal, to reptile, to bird. Even fantasy animals such as Dragons, Gryphons, Unicorns, and Werewolves are considered to be Furries.

What kind of Fur am I?

That is not an easy question to answer. Usually it can be answered by asking yourself what your favorite animal is, or the animal you feel the closest to. Some people feel they are guided by an animal spirit or totem and identify with that. Others know they are furries, or want to be a furry, yet can't pick a fursona. If you feel this way, remember to always go with what feels right for you. Not what others tell you.
